It is very gracious on the part of my friend from Tennessee to refer to the attitude of the New York newspapers regarding the humanization of the immigration laws. Every paper in New York wants to see every alien gangster. racketeer. and criminal who has been convicted of a crime deported. Every great editor of our metropolitan press would like to see the enactment of legislation that will humanize the immigration laws and do justice to the alien Immigrants who entered this country illegally but who have been loyal. faithful. conscientious. and honest workers in our midst. We should never deport an honest alien and leave behind his American wife and children born here. Such treatment disintegrates the American home.
