Session #75 · 1937–39

Speech #750050941

Hauptmann. the man who killed the Lindbergh baby. did just what these people have done. He did it under the same impulses and under the same inspiration. in my opinion. and with the same connivance on the part of individuals in the United States to get him in here. probably bribed his way in. probably bribed the same people that some of these people bribed to get in here. When he came here. would you have deported him? Why. they say he had a child. yet he committed one of the most dastardly crimes that has ever blackened the records of our country. He was a criminal before he came here. He had been in the penitentiary in Germany. No doubt some of these men have been in penitentiaries and ought to be in the penitentiary now for bribery. perjury. and other crimes. You are destroying our immigration laws. You are destroying laws that it took years and years to pass. in this insidious manner. In my opinion. the American people will not stand for it.
