Mr. Speaker. I have been a member of the Committee on Immigration for the past 18 years and I think that my record as a member of this committee. as well as the record I have made on the floor of this House. will demonstrate that I am an ultrarestrictionist. I recognize. however. that mercy should be applied in certain hardship cases such as are presented in this bill. Mr. Speaker. this bill is composed of only 15 out of something over 50 private bills of a similar character that the Committee on Immigration has considered. In my judgment practically all of the cases making up this bill axe genuine. meritorious. hardship cases. and for this reason I expect to vote for most of them. There are two or three cases that. in my opinion. should be stricken from the bill. and for that reason. if a motion is made to strike out the enacting clause.
