Session #75 · 1937–39

Speech #750023850

Mr. Speaker. I move to strike out the last word. Mr. Speaker. I am in sympathy with the thoughts which impel the gentleman from Ohio to offer this amendment. As a member of this committee. it is largely my purpose. as it is the purpose of the gentleman from Ohio. to try to restrict the immigration laws rather than to loosen them. However. I am afraid the gentleman in offering his amendment has in the short time he has had to study the bill misconstrued the purpose of it. I am afraid his motives have outweighed his judgment in the brief opportunity he has had to consider the bill.
