Speaker. this is a bill that also comes from the committee unanimously. This bill constitutes a step in the right direction. Under the present immigration law the Secretary of Labor. when he finds an alien stranded here. may send him back to his native land to stay. but this is true only for a period of 3 years after entry. We have a number of aliens who find themselves stranded here and who are on the relief rolls in this country. who want to go back to their native lands. but there is no authority in the law giving the Secretary of Labor the right to send them back because they have been here more than 3 years. This bill gives the Secretary power to repatriate all of these aliens on relief rolls who seek to return to their native lands. but who have not the funds.
