Speech #740208387

Mr. President. during the course of my remarks the Senator from Vermont was permitted to insert some statistics in the RECORD. and they show that in 1933 the total immigration amounted to 23.000. There were rejected at the ports 5.527. There were deported as criminal aliens 2.712. There was a total of aliens admitted. all told. of 24.737. We are confronted today with the problem of acting on a measure under which it is expected that within 3 years the aliens illegally in this country will be rounded up. They cannot be rounded up with the present force in 3 years.
