In view of the fact that it is a subject commanding the interest of the great masses of the people in all the 48 States. I unhesitatingly assume that the subject under discussion is of vital interest to the Members of this body. The question of immigration Is one which has concerned us since George Washington. the first President of the United States. in an inaugural message made mention of the question of immigration as it related particularly to the character and the blood strains of the people who eventually were to constitute. as I have no doubt he had in mind. the 125.000.000 or 130.000.000 people who live in our country today. In order that those Members of the Senate who were not here yesterday may understand at the outset that I am not only expressing my personal opinion in reference to my opposition to what Is known as the KerrCoolidge bill. but that my opinion is shared by millions upon millions of men and women. young and old. in every section of the United States. many millions of whom are affiliated with leading patriotic organizations that are interested in America. I wish to say that my opinion of and my opposition to the KerrCoolidge bill are shared by the American Federation of Labor. the American Legion. the Veterans of Foreign Wars. the Disabled Veterans of the World War. the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. the Patriotic Order of the Sons of America. the Daughters of the American Revolution. the Sons of the American Revolution. and 110 other different patriotic organizations and societies of America.
