Session #74 · 1935–37

Speech #740183150

I saw another book. and while it is not in the school libraries they can get it. It is in all the libraries of Washington. and if I may be permitted I shall read just one short excerpt from it. It kind of got under my collar when I read the following: Immigrants describe America as they found it. a country dominated by capitalists with a sordid bourgeois society without ideals. a land of dollar chasers where wealth controls the Government and exploits the people. I believe I can tell you something about that. I am an immigrant. I came to this country as a young man knowing there were chances for me here where there were no chances for me in Germany. I came with nothing but a strong mind and a healthy body.
