Session #74 · 1935–37

Speech #740079682

Mr. Speaker. when this bill was first reported by the committee my opposition to it was based on the ground that there was no section in the bill providing that after the Filipinos had been deported they could not be readmitted. Many of us believed it would not be right to spend the public funds to send these people home if they could return in a short time or at any time. Since then. however. it has been agreed that an amendment would be offered to the bill which would make it impossible for these Filipinos to return to the United States. and with this amendment it occurs to me that this is a good bill.
