Session #72 · 1931–33

Speech #720042915

That is a good answer. but my friend got up. and with considerable vehemence. took the floor inveighing against the enforcement of the prohibition law. and said at the time that we were not keeping step with the economies of the program when we did not reduce this appropriation for the enforcement of prohibition and yet failed to say anything in favor of reducing the appropriation for strict enforcement of immigration laws and the strict enforcement of the antitrust law. So I say that my friend from New York. with all due respect. should be consistent in the matter. So I say you should vote today to enforce the Constitution of the United States and the laws enacted under it in this provision we are considering now.
