Session #72 · 1931–33

Speech #720008242

Our merchant marine is having a particularly difficult time. The representatives of the shipping companies operating on the Pacific believe that the passage of this bill would be disastrous to the American flag on the Pacific. There are others of us who believe that the passage of this bill would lead to serious difficulties with foreign nations. particularly with Asiatic nations. at this time when we are having a very difficult row to follow as it is. Therefore. it seems to me that there is new testimony that might be adduced. and that no one should be denied the privilege of a hearing merely because hearings were held several years ago. and I again renew my request to the chairman of the committee.
