Reserving the right to object. the report contains no letter from the department showing whether it approves the bill or not. Furthermore. as I read the bill. it would authorize and permit clerks of State courts to receive this money and pocket it without accounting for the same. A further objection is the fact that the status has changed since the committee in the last Congress raised the fee for naturalization from $2 to $10 and in some instances $20. The work is not of the same pressing nature since the committee raised the feeinordinately. as I view itfrom what it was prior thereto. A different picture now presents itself. as the clerks of the State courts are not burdened now with this work.
