It is desired by the Department of State. I wish it could have been referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs originally. It involves $150.000 collected as fees for visas in 1924 from immigrants who were not allowed to receive the visas under the new law. There were 15.000 or more of them at one time. The United States has got the money in the Treasury belonging to these people. and owes it to them. and wants to pay them. Many of the holders of these visas are now in the United States. but to come they had to pay for other immigration visas. We should not keep their money. Several foreign governments have appealed to our State Department for the return of this money. belonging to these different people. most of whom as I have said. are now in the United States. It is their money. not ours. and should be returned to them. Apparently gentlemen who want other immigration legislation would try to force the situation by objecting to this one.
