Session #71 · 1929–31

Speech #710213935

I will state to the gentleman from Florida that when the immigration act was changed in 1924. and as construed a year later by the Supreme Court. it excluded the Chinese wives of American citizens. At the time there were a number of Chinese wives of American citizens in China and a number were oil their way to the United States. Some of them are here now under bond to return. and they have raised families. It would be most unjust to return them to China. This does not involve a great number of wives and it is to protect and keep together families.
