Senators can see how many thousands and hundreds of thousands of people we would have coming in here. doing just what used to be done under the old law. when a million a year were permitted to come. At one time. as I recall. 1.400.000 foreigners came here in one year. We have been restricting immigration until now we have cut down the number to about 150.000. or somewhat less than that. I believe. If we permit these individual amendments to go upon these measures from tinie to tinme. we are going to have hundreds of thousands coming in here. just as we used to have under amendments that were brought up and passed because there was some pitiful ase involved.
