Session #71 · 1929–31

Speech #710193824

Commissioner Whalen never guaranteed or stated that these documents were genuine. He simply said he had certain photostat copies of documents and that an investigation was being made as to the truth or falsity of these documents. Why make such a charge against a public official who came here and gave the Committee on Immigration most valuable information with regard to certain things that are happening not only in the city of New York but in every community in the United States of America? I think the gentleman from New York should apologize to the commissioner of police of the city of New York. because he did not submit any documents to the committee. When the committee pressed him for documents he told the truth.
