I do not subscribe to that. There are many family reasonspressing. urgent family reasons and other reasons why immigration should not be absolutely stopped immediately. We put on our first restriction. as I understand. in 1921. At that time it was 3 per cent. Now we have gotten down. if the action we just took is ratified today. to 1 per cent. We have done pretty well. Since I have been here in the Senate. a little over a year. we have cut the quota from about 165.000 to about 80.000. If the action of today goes into effect. I think next year it will be cut again. probably. and we are reducing it rather rapidly.
