If the Senator will look at the census blank he will see that that blank will not afford the informnation that is desired. and it never has afforded it. it can not do so. in view of the way in which it is worded. But the fact is we are presented now with these two measures. One of them I want to have passed. I am not particularly anxious which one it shall be. but I want at least one of them passed. If we may put our linger upon the number of Mexicans who are going to be dealt with by the immigration law. that one apparently would be preferable: and the one that enables us to do that. in my opinion. in the first instance is the Johnson bill. introduced in the House of Representatives. rather than the Harris bill which is pending here.
