Session #71 · 1929–31

Speech #710176528

Mr. President. there has been long discussion of this immigration matter. I have been a member of the Committee on Immigration since I have been in the Senate. and I am very much interested in the subject of immigration. I believe that every one of the many amendments which have been offered has some good in it. I believe that all of the immigrntion measures we have undertaken to pass in the last three years have had some merit in them. But hardly any immigration laws have been enacted. If we have reported a measure from the committee. it has been killed either in the Senate or in the House. as t general thing. It might be said that the national origins bill was tie only one that amounted to anything that went through.
