I call upon those who are going to vote upon this matter to bear in mind their constituents. The people of the Nation are opposed to any further foreign immigration in these days of unemployment. The difficulty is riot limited to those who were born in this country. I have talked to many men born across the water who have had their jobs taken away from them frequently. after they have been here and demanded fair wages according to American standards. by newer immigrants imported here for the special purpose of taking their jobs. I want to say that the legislative representative of the American Farm Bureau Federation does not represent the idea of the farmers of Alabama when he comes before a committee of Congress and opposes legislation at this session intended to put Mexico on a restricted immigration basis. He is not representing the views of the farmers of the Nation when he says that the farmer must have cheap labor. The men in this country on the farms who need protection are the little farmers.
