A bill to provide for the punishment of deported aliens who return to the United States Be it enacted. etc.. That it shall be unlawful for any alien who has been heretofore or who may hereafter be deported from the United States in pursuance of law to return to the United States. and any such alien who enters or attempts to enter the United States shall be guilty of a felony. and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than three years or by a fine of not more than $2.000. or by both such fine and imprisonment. An alien sentenced to imprisonment under this act shall not be deported under any provision of law until after the termination of such imprisonment. whereupon he shall be deported. That (a) If any alien has been arrested and deported in pursuance of law. he shall be excluded from admission to the United States whether such deportation took place before or after tle enactment of this act. and if he enters or atiempts to enter the United States after the expiration of 60 days after the enactment of this act. he shall be guilty of a felony. and upon conviction thereof shall. unless a different penalty is otherwise expressly provided by law. be punished by imprisonment for not nore than two years or by a fine of not more than $1.000. or by both such fine and imprisonment. (b) For tho purposes of this section any allen ordered deported (whether before or after the enactment of this act) who has left the United States shall be considered to have been deported in pursuance of law. irrespective of tile source from which the expenses of his transportation were defrayed or of the place to which lie departed.
