Session #71 · 1929–31

Speech #710166078

I have been for two years urging the Senate to take action on this and a similar bill to stop Mexican immigration. I think I have been patient. I have never objected to a unanimousconsent proposal and I hope I may never have to do so. I have respect for the bills of other Senators and for their opinion about their bills. but I shall keep this bill before the Senate until I get a vote on it in some way if under the rules it is within my power to do so. If the Senator from Oregon will agree to a certain day within a reasonable time. say. 10 days or 2 weeks. instead of immediately following the disposition of the Muscle Shoals measure. that would be satisfactory to me. and I think that shows that I am considerate and reasonable.
