If we are to keep American business for Americans. we must keep American jobs for Americans. Judge Box. a distinguished Member of Congress from Texas. and myself have just finished a most exhaustive survey of the economic and social conditions among the Mexicans and the effect of their presence in the body politic of the Southwest. We were assisted by eminent students of the immigration question and students of questions of population. My part in this survey was a very insignificant one. but was sufficient to justify my reference to it here. This survey has attracted nationwide attention. as is attested by an article in a recent issue of the Saturday Evening Post and an article in a recent issue of Current History.
