Speech #710106755

EnglishAmericans. and FrenchAmericans. and they are not ashamed of the country from which they came. There are no more lawabiding people In this country than those of French extraction. Their children attend our schools. they attend our churches. they work in our factories. they pay their taxes. and they are the type of immigrant that we want in this country to build up our citizenship. I wish to call the attention of the House to the interchange of trade with Canada. For the year ended November 30. 1929. our imports from Canada were valued at $529.000.000. During the same period our exports to Canada amounted to $902.000.000. showing a difference of trade in our favor of $373.000.000. Is it the purpose of the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization to report to this House a hill which will in any way disturb this favorable trade balance by establishing an undesirable barrier between the two countries?
