My impression is that the people who are opposed to this law do not understand the law fully. I agree with the gentlemanI am not for an open door. I want to keep down immigration as much as I can. but I say as to this humane proposition that the least we can do is to cement home ties. I think it would be the greatest Christmas and New Years present you could give to the American citizen by permitting him to bring in his father and mother in exemption of quota. I am willing to establish any rules or regulations of law and put them into effect preventing the old people from work. if that is what you are in favor of. but you could not contend that they would come here and compete with the Federation of Labor in any industry. .
