Speaker and gentlemen. on the 25th of May. 1926. we passed the original buildings program bill. which authorized the expenditure of $165.000.000 for public buildings. Fifteen million dollars of this was to be used for the construction of buildings that were left over from the act of March 4. 1913. where they could not be constructed under the original limit of cost. because it was not sufficient to meet the increased cost of construction. Fifty million dollars of this was to be used for the construction of public buildings inside the District of Columbia and $100.000.000 was to be used for the construction of post offices. courthouses. marine hospitals. immigration stations. custombouses. and so forth. outside of the District of Columbia. A little later on we passed what was known as the Reed bill. which was an amendment authorizing another $100.000.000 for these buildings outside of the District of Columbia. A little later on we passed another bill. which was known as "the triangle bill." which provided an amount of $25.000.000 to purchase land inside the District of Columbia for this District building program.
