Session #71 · 1929–31

Speech #710030777

I appreciate the Senators position. but I do not like to be put in the attitude. and I do not think the Senate ought to be put in the attitude. of selecting between English and Germans. because if it were left to me I might prefer immigrants from both of those countries as compared to some other country. because I do not think that there has been a better citizenship created in the United States than by the immigrants who have come from both England and Germany. I do not like to regard it as discriminating in favor of one of those countries and against the other under any circumstances.
