It is entirely likely that it would be possible to check up the 1890 figures further and make further changes in them by applying to them a study of the emigration from those countries that have preserved their county and parish records. One example is Croatia. a Province which used to be Hungarian. and is now part of Yugoslavia. They have kept rather remarkably complete records of emigration from that Province. but that has never been done. nobody has ever attempted to apply that to the reading of the 1890 census. In any event. it would be only partially complete. However. let me go on.
