Session #70 · 1927–29

Speech #700189504

Mr. Speaker and gentlemen. the history of deportation legislation during the last two or three years would be interesting to you if you stopped to consider it. During the Sixtyninth Congress the House passed a substantial deportation bill. It went to the other body but did not pass. It was never acted upon. I thimk. During the first session of this Congress a milder bill. sort of denatured proposition. was reported in the hope that it might pass. It had too much vigor in it and was too much out of line with the vote here tonight. and could not get consideration in the House.
