Session #70 · 1927–29

Speech #700175689

I wish to contribute in my humble way to the tribute of esteem and respect that will be paid. and rightfully so. by Members of Congress upon both sides of the aisle. regardless of political faith. to the life and character of our late lamented fellow Member. Hon. MARTIN B. MADDEN. Much comment is made today in the Nation against the foreignborn citizen. The late Representative MADDEN was a fine. outstanding example of one who was foreign born but who served this Nation with great credit and marked benefit to all its people. He was a great factor in the upbuildiug and development of the country. both as a private citizen and in his services as a Member of Congress for nearly a quarter of a century. During tile last several years he served as chairman of the very important Committee on Appropriations.
