Session #70 · 1927–29

Speech #700171343

Mr. Speaker. ladies. and gentlemen of the House. it shall be my aim to discuss the changes in the immigration laws as proposed by the three bills passed by the House on Friday. February 15. and Saturday. February 16. I do this in the belief that it may be of interest to Members who have not had time to study the matter carefully and because ofa widespread interest in all immigration matters. These bills are known as the Box bill. the Free bill. and the Johnson deportation bill. These bills deal with entirely different phases of the immigration law and will be trea ted separately. Each of these bills must receive favorable action from the Senate and the President before it becomes a part of the law of the land.
