Session #70 · 1927–29

Speech #700134441

If the Congress of the United States can constitutionally enact this measure prohibiting prisonmade goods from being solt in interstate commerce. what would prevent Congress from enacting a law prohibiting the sale of goods made by foreign labor? For instance. in some sections of the country the immigration laws are violated openly and flagrantly by bringing laborers across the border. Such laborers produce crops which are sent all over this country. and as soon as the crops are made the violation of the immigration law is endeavored to be remedied by sending the foreigners back home. If Congres can enact a law prohibiting the selling of convictsnde goods or tile shipping of convictsnade goods. why call it not enact a law prohibiting the sale of commodities produced and lnautflctured with the help of foreign labor?
