Session #70 · 1927–29

Speech #700124792

Mr. President. there is another phase of this subject. if the Senator will permit me to interrupt him. which I should like to have him discuss. I recall that under the operations of the present law complaint has been made that families have been separated and hardships have resulted because of that fact. I also recall that much has been said and provisions have been incorporated in both of the platforms of the major political parties contemplating relief from this hardship. I should like to have the Senator discuss that subject for just a moment. and explain what hardships have resulted. or illustrate them. and how the situation can be remedied without greatly increasing the number of immigrants.
