Speech #700119574

The location of his home after his marriage to Jane Cook. a ScotchIrish daughter of South Carolina. has not been established. Inasmuch as his bounty was located in South Carolina. and his wife was a native of the State. the theory is plausible that lie lived until 1796 on the eastern bank of the Savannah River. Serious men gave thought to the tide of immigration flowing out of South Carolina early in the life of the Nation. The fresh country inthe West opened to settlers made inroads on the population of the Eastern States. The trek which began in the Southern States was later followed by mnass movements out of New England. and the manufacturers. who were recently established. sent sip wails of despair.
