Speech #700099390

I am not going to be put into the position before the committee of making a comparison between Canadianborn people and any other specific nationality. and surely not with the people from which I happen to come myself. Referring generally. however. to the northern countries of Europe. I believe that the immigrants that we have received from such countries have been very satisfactory people and have played their part in developing the United States. and I am not here to say that those of us of Norwegian origin are a bit better than those of German origin or Swedish or Irish or Scotch origin. or Canadian origin or anyone else. Nor. from pride of ancestry. do I care to admit that the Canadians are any better than those of us who happen to have Norwegian blood in our veins.
