In reference to the statement of the Senator. the growth of the population from now on. of course. will not be as much as it was in the decade before the war. because then we were allowing by immigration about a million people to come here every year. That is reduced almost to a minimum now2 per cent of the nationals that are already here. So that the growth of the population from now on will be very largely through natural increase. and not. as has always been the case heretofore. through tremendous immigration from other countries. for it goes without saying that we are never going to resume that practice as we used to observe it.
