In the hearings on this bill Congressman JOHNsON of Washington. who is the chairman of the House Committee on Immigration and Naturalization testified. according to my recollection. to this effect. ill substancethat th increase in population annually under our present immigration laws and natural increase of population ran from oneand a half to two million a year. I think there can be no question about the approximate accuracy of that statement. But those are matters which can be gotten from the Census Bureau with a greater degree of accuracy than I can give them here. We ill recognize that there is at least a substantial increase in the population of this country annually of 2.000.000 persons. and as the population increases the natural increase will progressively become greater each year.
