Session #70 · 1927–29

Speech #700066596

Let me add that this question is entirely nonpolitical. The postponement will give time for further study and in the meantime our own committee will have time to work on some harder problems--harder. perhaps. than the House would think. The matter of the restriction of immigration from the borders is not an easy problem and is one that will not down until it is settled. The matter of .relief for relatives of declarants. fathers and mothers of citizens. under certain conditions. is a matter that will not down. Our committee has put in two hours of very hard work this morning. and I do not care whether the man is in Congress or outside of Congress. he will find that these problems that deal with such human matters are distressful and wearing.
