The gentleman tells us that until 1853 public building was done under the supervision of the President and under the supervision of the Treasury Department. and that during that time. a period of 64 years. there was a total of 23 post offices built and a total of all buildings. including quarantine and immigration stations of 56 places. and this was all that was done in the 64 years.
