Session #69 · 1925–27

Speech #690222775

Senator WtLLis. chairman of the Senate committee. would move to concur in this amendment. and for that reason instead of calling up our House bill. which is on the calendar. we called up the Senate bill and offered this amendment. I want to explain briefly what this amendment does. The question of citizenship has been indorsed and explained by the gentleman from Washington. Mr. JOHNSON. chairman of the Committee on Immigration. and has also been passed upon by both the Senate and the House committees. and I think there is no opposition to the citizenship provisions In the bill. It is something the people of the Virgin Islands are entitled to and we are anxious it should become a law at this session. With reference to the amendment.
