We had been olonists for a long time before that war in 1775. In 1750 Benjamin Franklin made an estimate that the population of all of the colonies was 1.000.000. and he estimated that that 1.000.000 people had come very largely from 80.000 basic colonists. Population doubled in those days every 25 years. Every child was a distinct asset. The home was the center of things. -nd that is the way population grows when it is not restricted in any way. so that when we came to take the first census in 1790 we were 3.000.000 people. not counting those who had been brought here as slaves.
