Mr. Speaker and gentlemen. let me make this broad statement. and I measure my words when I make it: There is not in this bill a single provision that will work any hardship on any desirable lawabiding alien now in this country. It is not only a protection for the native born of our country but it is an even greater protection for that large per cent of aliens now in our midst who are worthy people and who are obeying our laws. I am somewhat amused at tie gentleman who proclaims that he does not have any sympathy with the criminal alien and does not want to protect them. yet as I have noticed his record in Congress. and I find that never by word or act has lie done anything to help in the deportation of that class.
