We had a newspaper clipping showing that it had been and we had him saying it had not been. and I did not feel that I could vote to convict him on that showing. But there is this fact that ought to be borne in mind. There was given to the American immigration authorities a copy of a telegram purporting to be signed by the President of Mexico himself. asserting that this man was not a political refugee. but was a murderer and a bandit. There was evidence. I do not know whether worthy or not. but evidence furnished the American authorities. that the man had been guilty of no less than two train wrecks. in which Americans as well as Mexicans were killed.
