Session #69 · 1925–27

Speech #690106160

I am not going to read the names of those jurymen for fear I might do an injustice or give offense to some of them. I will simply state in one or two cases there is not a name on the jury list that has an American sound. Undoubtedly they are all citizens. and whether they are naturalized citizens or not makes no difference in this case. but what I want to call your attention to is the fact that the treatment of women and the standards. and methods of living In the country from which most of these men emanate are different from our standards here. There Is not a man In this House who should vote for this proposition unless he is perfectly willing. that his wife shall be drawn as a juror to serve with this mixed citizenship that I have presented to you. If you are willing that your wife should be drawn as a juror. sit anywhere from three to six weeks in a trial or trials. then you are in favor of this bill.
