Session #68 · 1923–25

Speech #680201039

Mr. President. I was very much interested in the comments of the Senator from Pennsylvania on the immigration law and its operations. I did not care to interrupt his remarks. but I do wish to have in the same issue of the RECORD where his address appears some criticism of the failure of our Government to give consideration to the aliens who are in ports of Europe waiting to come to America. I am in harmony with the general principles laid down in the last immigration law. I felt when the bill was passed that the percentage restriction was too great. and I feel so now. I think we could assimilate a larger number than is permitted to enter.
