Session #68 · 1923–25

Speech #680110715

The president of the seamens union. the most unselfish and highminded labor leader In America. Mr. Andrew Furuseth. has vainly pleaded the cause of the seamen before both House and Senate Immigration Committee. Being a highminded man and a patriotic American. he acquiesced in the immigration bill passing the House in the form it did. upon being told that any change ill the seamens provision from the way the bill was written would mean the defeat of the bill. as the interest of the country at large was greater thai that of the seamen. That condition has now changed. The only thing that now endangers the bill from becoming a law is those provisions that have been written Into it In the conference.
