In the South we are suffering for two reasons: First. because the bollweevil infestation has made cotton farming unprofitable. that being practically the only crop made by a large number of the farmers in that section of the country. Secondly. we are losing. and have been losing for some time. our farm labor to supply the shortage of labor in the industries of the North and West. brought about by the restriction of immigration. The South is now and so is the West. as I understand it. contemplating the diversification of their crops. Heretofore those two sectionsthe cotton section in the South and the wheat section in the Westhave been largely onecrop sections.
