Mr. President. the future Immigration polIcy of the. United States is challenging the most serious attention of the American. people. They demand that this policy be changed from one of practically the open door to all. peoples of the world to one of rigid restriction if not absolute prohibition of immigration. This is a matter of the greatest importance and must have prompt and favorable consideration. The Immigrants we are receiving today are of a different character from those that came in the early history of our country. and the great numbers in which they are arriving is a cause of serious alarm and menaces the purity of the blood. the homogeneity. and the supremacy of the American people and the integrity and perpetuity of our representative form of government. The highest duty of every nation is to protect its nationals and its government. Our constitutional form of government is recognized to. be the wisest that was ever constructed and put into successful operation.
