I have not taken any of the time of the committee during the consideration of this bill. and I propose to take only a few minutes at this time. I am heartily in favor of the bill as reported by the committee. and I think the members of the committee are to be commended for the study and consideration they have given to the subject and for the bill which they have reported. In my judgment the subject of immigration should be considered by the Congress solely and singly from the standpoint of Americas best interests. and I have regretted to note that in some of the discussions against the bill there has run the idea that we should give consideration to the interest of those who desire to come into this country rather than to the interest of America and American Institutions. I do not profess to have any more patriotism than any other Member of this House. and I am quite sure that every man who is opposed to this bill is patriotic. but. as I view it. some of them have lost sight of Americas interest in their effort to change this bill. I have listened to the discussion here with reference to the quota based on the census of 1890. and I fall to see that there is any particular discrimination against the citizens of any foreign country.
