Mr. Chairman. the subject of immigration Way be approached from many angles. I wish to direct my replarks chiefly to the problem of assimilation. The people of the first settlements in the United States were of British blood. The British race came almost entirely from two stocks. Teutonic and Celtic. The original Pdtish base was Celtic. Thea came a great infusion of Teutonic blood with the invasion of the Angles. Saxons. and Jlutes. Later there were fresh or further infusions of Teutonic blood with the invasions of Dnes and Norwegians. These races. with comparatively slight admixtures of other bloods. have produced the great British olemocracy.
